Pakistani Jets attacked Taliban hideouts and killed 37 militants, spotting the first offensive since the home-made insurgents ended a ceasefire amid flagging peace talks to end the decade-long fighting.

18 militants were hunted in Thursday's strikes in the tribal area of Khyber on the Afghan border, a higher military official, who requested not to be acknowledged, said in a text message. The operation was carried out after confirming those militants were involved in current terrorist attacks, he said.

"This attack doesn't mean it is the complete end of peace talks," said Talat Masood, an Islamabad-based defense analyst. "however it also shows the talks aren't going anywhere. It's more of a posturing."
